Getting Started with SEO and SEM

For small and large businesses Search Engine Optimization and Search Engine Marketing are marketing channels that can no longer take a back seat to traditional marketing mediums.

In the past mediums such as TV, Radio, and Newspaper ruled. Now these marketing mediums are being overtaken by a new marketing medium , Search Engine Marketing.

Search Engine Marketing has to doors to break through to find success. You can Pay-Per-Click or you can hire a specialist and optimize your site. One of these methods represents the long road and one represent the short road, Which road will your business take?

Good Answer! It makes good business sense to do both while your business is getting started and your budget should be equally divided. Once your website is organically listed you will not have to pay for each click, here is an example:

We will use Google as our search platform. The keyword to input into google for this test will be "Steam Shower" (without the quotes)

The paid section of the search engine results page (SERP) is easy to spot, its highlighted in a soft Yellow and occupies the top three results and the far right column of the page. ALL of these are called sponsored listings and the company represented there pays a fee each time some clicks on the ad.

Saunas.com/Steam_Shower_Rooms (sponsor #2)
Wasauna.com/Steam-Showers (sponsor #3)

Below these three paying customers of google you will notice some "Shopping Results" from google's network then you will see the "Organic Search Results"  These customer are not paying per click and have managed to optimize their website in such a way and with such proficiency that google loves them and displayed them on its first page.
