Situated in the coal regions of northeast Pennsylvania, Lakewood Park was established in 1916 by the Guinan family as a place to bathe, picnic and camp. Until its closing in 1984, the park developed into the destination for swimming, amusement rides, big band dances, boxing matches, ethnic celebrations, summer stock plays and political banquets.
In over 200 vintage photographs, members of the Guinan family capture the memorable essence of Lakewood Park.
Highlights of Lakewood Park:
•Features historic photographs donated from the private collections of the Guinan family and other local residents
•Includes eyewitness accounts from 100-year local historian Puck Sullivan
•Showcases the amusement rides, Big Bands and movie starts that appeared at Lakewood Park
Proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to the Mahanoy City Public Library’s Elevator Fund.
