Follow on Google News | Philadelphia Solar Expert Outlines Tax Incentives In New Green EconomyPhiladelphia Solar Installer and Finance Company explains the current tax incentives available for residential photovoltaic installations. Compares buying solar panels to a solar equipment lease under different tax situations.
By: Wendy Pearson with Urban Eco Electric David Blumenfeld of Urban Eco Electric lead a seminar on the current tax incentives available for "green projects" and specifically solar panels. He broke down how the federal tax credit works and how it applies differently depending on your tax situation. In his example, the average Philadelphian pays $1,000 to $3,000 a year in federal tax and it could take over ten years to monetize the $12,000 tax credit that results from a $40,000 solar panel installation. The federal incentive is supported by a state rebate (of about $9,000 for the typical $40,000 installation) Then Blumenfeld laid out a way for lower and middle income Philadelphians to take advantage of the current incentives regardless of their tax status and without any upfront costs. The Solar Lease bundles the financing, construction and incentives into a single product for Philadelphia homeowners that allows them to benefit from the current incentives without having to front the initial investment on their roofs.
