Central Texas – It’s time to get your bones checked: October is National Chiropractic Month. Previously celebrated as “Spinal Health Month”, National Chiropractic Month is a platform to get the word out about the importance of spinal health.
At the Austin Chiropractic Health Center in Austin, Texas Dr. Harry Schultze stresses the role of the spine in staying “young”, fit, mobile, and pain-free. “We teach a class every week called ‘How to Stay Young Your First 100 Years” says Dr. Schultze, “We seek to educate people about the importance of their spine in their overall health and well-being. The class provides new information on a topic that patients intuitively know is important but have not taken steps to address. You can get a transplant for an organ that stops functioning;
The free 30-minute class is a reminder that Americans spend millions each year on dental health, cosmetic surgery, and ‘fountain of youth’-type procedures when immobility and pain management issues age people virtually overnight. Research shows that we are living longer, but evidence reveals that our quality of life may not be able to keep up (University of Texas Report on Today Show, 4/11/2006). If mobility is lost at 65 due to injury or wear & tear and a person lives to be 90, that’s 25 years of impaired mobility and a lower quality of life.
Austin Chiropractic Health Center plans to celebrate National Chiropractic Month 2009 in 2 ways:
