On October 6th, 2009, Avant Media will release Voices + Sine Waves, a special download-only album by minimal composer and Avant Media founding director, Randy Gibson.
The six-track album presents five of Gibson’s short works from the last 10 years including the early visceral vocal exercise, Julia; the raga-influenced soundtrack to Ana Baer-Carrillo’
Also included are two versions of Two Sides recorded in October 2005. These two takes feature the same artists working with the same material and show Gibson’s interest in unrepeatable performance situations.
Of the works collected here, Gibson has said “These are some of my favorite pieces, and some of the most important to me in that they all provide glimpses into the work that I’m doing now. I love that I can listen to a really early work of mine, like Julia, or even Mujeres, and hear hints of what I’m writing now. As different as these two works seem, Julia with its intense, violent, and downright ugly sound worlds versus Mujeres which is extremely lyrical and emotional, they represent the two most basic facets of what I want my work to be.”
A collection of pieces as varied as Voices + Sine Waves gives us the opportunity to share with the world the singular vision of Avant Media’s artistic director through some of his most readily accessible works.
Voices + Sine Waves will be released October 6th, 2009 as a digital download available through iTunes, Amazon MP3, and direct from Avant Media through Bandcamp. Visit http://randy-
