Hip Hop Female Emcees Are an Endangered Species

Once the reigning queens of Hip Hop, the female emcees have their battles with male dominance in the music industry, but no one projected they would be near extinction by 2009. Where are all the female Hip Hop artists at? Where did they go?

Sept. 30, 2009 - PRLog -- Lately, you barely hear or see them. It is now the Hip Hop video vixens being recognized as the women of Hip Hop. This cannot be allowed. From mainstream to the streets, this is affecting the music industry, as a whole. Hood Access decided it was time to address this issue. The Internet radio show will shine a spotlight on the lack of female emcees in Hip Hop. This also includes a decline in media appearances, such as videos, radio airplay, and music events.

On October 24, 2009, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM (Arizona), Hood Access will interview female emcees during its live radio show. You can listen to the interview by directly visiting Radio Phoenix at www.radiophoenix.org or logging onto the station's Live365 channel at www.live365.com/stations/radiophx.

"This is history in the making," said DJ Hipnotik, the host of Hood Access Radio Show. She's a woman clearly on a mission. "We are definitely going to draw attention to this issue. It has been festering for years. Now is the time to find out what the real deal is." DJ Hipnotik has had the luxury of working with independent female artists, such as MsZ2Much of Ruttown Records (www.ruttownrecords.com), an independent record label based in Phoenix, Arizona.  DJ Hipnotik added, "MsZ2Much is hotter than many of her male counterparts. I had the luxury of watching her perform live before a crowd of Hip Hop lovers. She ripped the stage, with her flow and lyrics. One such track, 'U Want Me Naked,' fires on the industry's lack of respect for female emcees. The crowd goes wild whenever she performs that song, giving her shout outs of mad respect and acknowledgement."

DJ Hipnotik believes everyone can benefit by listening to this special interview because it raises awareness. This could effect a positive change on how female emcees are viewed and treated in Hip Hop. "They are an important part of the Hip Hop culture. They should be praised for their continuing contributions to the music industry. The future Hip Hop divas are coming strong in 2010. It's either joined them or step aside because they refuse to go down without a battle," she added. "Queen Latifa, MC Lyte, Yo-Yo, and many more legendary female emcees have paved the way for up and coming. We must continue what they've started by letting the industry know female emcees are here to stay."

The special, "Future Hip Hop Divas," will be a two-part series. The first part will air on October 10, 2009, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The play list will feature music from legendary, female emcees. Part two will air October 24, 2009 at the same time. It will be a combination of music and a live interview with future Hip Hop female emcees. They will share their views on the current situation of Hip Hop. Don't miss this historical event on Radio Phoenix at www.radiophoenix.org and Live365 at www.live365.com/stations/radiophx. Hood Access will also be live on Twitter at @hoodaccess and will be setting up a chat room, for discussion. Join Hood Access mailing list at thedish@hoodaccess, for additional show news and updates.
