Meet the Cookies from Home Grandmas

Sept. 29, 2009 - PRLog -- TEMPE, Ariz. – Once again, it looks almost as though Mrs. Claus herself has moved her North Pole bakery to Tempe, where Grandmas (and Grandpas too) will be baking from scratch in Cookies From Home’s ‘open view’ kitchen, creating holiday cookies using time-honored techniques and recipes that were handed down from founders Barry and Susan Brooks’ own Grandmas.

           Susan and Barry Brooks chose to reinforce Cookies From Home’s homemade heart in the summer of 2008 when the Grandmas Love Cookies From Home program began to take shape. Grandmas were recruited for the first time last year to bake side-by-side with younger staff members, and also to work in the Cookies From Home Gift Shop, serve customers who call in, and who place orders online.

           “Our own grandmas were such an inspiration,” explains Susan Brooks. “And it just feels right on many levels to bring Grandmas into our bakery. We want to offer a meaningful economic boost for those on a fixed income, and want to honor those who contribute both to our personal and professional lives in such a positive way. It fills my heart to see those beautiful faces, hear their personal stories and to realize how much we benefit from one another.”

           The view of the kitchen affords interaction with visitors, and Susan Brooks invites the community to plan a heartwarming holiday visit to support and encourage the Grandmas. Cookies From Home’s bakery and Gift Shop are located at 1605 W. University Dr., Suite 106 (on University Drive, just west of Priest.) Fresh-baked cookies will be available during holiday hours: from mid-November through Dec. 31, seven days a week from 7am to 7pm Monday through Friday and 9 am to 5 pm Saturday and Sundays.            The Grandmas Love Cookies From Home program was developed to support older members of the community who are feeling the economy’s pinch in increasing numbers, while fulfilling Cookies From Home’s holiday workforce need. Nearly 40 percent of the company’s annual revenue comes from holiday sales of fresh baked cookies that arrive nationwide within 48 hours of leaving the oven.
