New to Canada is the virtual gastric band that allows obese people to lose weight without surgery and without side effects.
Widely enjoyed in the U.K., Spain and Australia, the proponents of this hypnotic process claim their Hypno-Band ™ provides all the benefits and none of the side effects of actual surgery.
“The weight loss is driven by the remarkable power of the mind,” says Hypno-Band ™ founder, John Maclean, British hypnotherapist. “We use additional therapy techniques such as cognitive behavioural therapy to cement the long-lasting changes in eating habits that Hypno-Band ™ creates.”
A clinical trial of this innovative weight loss program is planned for November in Montreal’s Westside Medical Clinic. Licensed Hypno-Band ™ practitioner Bryan Knight, MSW, PhD, will conduct the four-part hypnotherapy for selected patients whose current BMI [Body Mass Index] is above 30.
“During the four sessions we take you through the process of having a gastric band fitted”, says Dr Knight, “only in your mind. By using suggestion and visualisation your mind will be convinced that your stomach has become smaller and that you need less food.”
Dr Nii Quao M.D., owner of the Westside Medical Clinic, is curious to see whether this trial will achieve the 70% - 80% success rate of long-term weight loss achieved by in Europe. “Only medically suited patients will be accepted for the trial sessions,” says Dr Quao, “even though the process itself is not medical but psychological.”
