In response to specific industry needs, ST Labs has adapted its Sta-Mulse® line of performance surfactants to provide solutions to producers of asphalt and coal-tar sealer applications.
STA-MULSE® ASP-50 is a liquid, cost effective coal tar emulsifier that exhibits superior emulsification properties and readily mixes with refined coal tar pitch. ASP-50 emulsions have produced smooth blends with excellent dispersion characteristics, requiring only a low level of additive to achieve high levels of stability. While ASP-50 has shown compatibility with most additives and aggregates, ST Laboratories strongly recommends thorough evaluation and testing with all additives and aggregates to establish compatibility.
For effective and stabilized asphalt sealcoat applications, ST Laboratories has promoted its STA-MULSE® 59-G emulsifier. A complex amine blend with asphalt enlivening agents, 59-G is an excellent emulsifier for both clay filled and mineral filled seal coats requiring low pour points and superior heat stability.
Finally, ST Labs offers STA-MULSE® BEXM as an effective additive to chemically stabilized asphalt sealers. BEXM has performed well as an additive to the finished emulsion. Benefits of applying BEXM may include improved water resistance, improved water sensitivity, excellent sand retention, cost-effectiveness, and improved adhesion. BEXM is an effective additive for other applications requiring high surface activities and cationic properties, including corrosion inhibitors, pigment dispersants and protective coatings.
