The 24 drivers competing in the SCCA Pro Racing Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup are traveling in familiar territory. Starting with the most recent race at Motorsport International Raceway, the final three events are on circuits that the series went to in 2008.
The Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup made its first visit to New Jersey Motorsports Park for a doubleheader weekend during its first season last year. Last weekend, the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup traveled north of the U.S. border to visit Canada's Mosport International Raceway. The elements played part in all of the weekend's action, as the drivers encountered rain, fog and even a little sun. Despite all the added challenges, it was series veteran Mark Pombo who dominated at Motorsport and became the fifth different racer to win this season.
Eight drivers from last season have returned in an attempt to capture the series title that carries not only a cash prize but also the promise of career advancement. Last year's first and second-place winners in the Championship both moved on to a more advanced series for 2009.
Of the eight drivers who competed in the series' races last year at New Jersey Motorsports Park, four of them turned in top-10 finishes.
When the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup heads to New Jersey Motorsports Park in the great old Garden State, the series will reflect its catchphrase, "truly green racing".
There's green racing, and there's the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup -- Truly green racing.
