This season of HIT Club started with the topic which has been important at all times and is especially acute now, with the current complicated economic situation – “Franchise, Management Contract or Independent Hotel – what makes most sense today?”
This topic provoked a lively discussion between Hotel Managers, Department Heads, property and management-company-
Participants’
The main interest and active discussion was caused by experts’ comments during the panel discussion. Among experts, which were invited to share their professional knowledge and experience, were Anatoly Kondratenko – Director Development, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Angelika Normann – Head of the Department of the Consulting Services in Hospitality and Entertainment Industry in Russia and CIS, Ernst & Young and Alexey Afanasyev - General Manager of the Aquarium Hotel and General Manager of the AkademProekt Company.
The experts’ opinions regarding the main topic of the discussion differed – they vowed either for attracting an International Hotel Operator or for Management by the Russian Hotel Chain. But there was a consensus that Professional Management is necessary for each hotel but its forms can vary – either franchise, or Management Contract or other forms.
The results of the post-event survey also speak for themselves - 73% of the participants answered the exit poll question “Which type of management is justified on the Russian market considering current economic reality?” as “Management by International Hotel Operator” against 23%, which chose “Management by Russian Hotel Operator”. (The respondents were allowed to choose more than one variant).
This event was moderated by Tatiana Veller, Managing Director of HVS Executive Search Moscow Office and one of the organizers of the HIT Club. “This was the first time that we tried our new format for the event, and I’m pleased to note that most of participants supported this innovation. Discussion was really lively and all participants received maximum value from their time spent at the event. We are strongly oriented to develop this event format allowing to cover the selected event topics within our event time allotments” – says Tatiana.
More than 20 hospitality industry companies participated in 5th HIT Club’s event and all admitted its importance and high practicality of the subjects discussed during this event.
