FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA—The Gamers’ Syndicate, LLC, will present its inaugural synDCon, an annual table-top gaming convention, at the Hilton Washington DC/Rockville Hotel & Executive Meeting Center in Rockville, Maryland from February 12, 2010, to February 15, 2010. synDCon 2010 seeks to fill the gap felt by the local gaming community when its only large gaming convention relocated to the Midwest.
Events Offered
“The convention will sponsor events for board games, role-playing games, collectible card games, and tabletop miniatures games in both tournament and non-tournament formats,” said Robert E. Bodine, Esq., an attorney representing the Gamers’ Syndicate. “We also have some gaming events in the planning stages that we consider innovative, such as our mini-campaign to be written by freelance writer, Matt James. Matt will be writing a short campaign playable over one or two days, satisfying D&D 4th edition players that want more than just hack-n-slash, but at the same time would like to avoid the rigidity of a ‘living campaign’ such as Living Forgotten Realms. But there’ll also be non-gaming events celebrating both the Presidents’ Day and St. Valentine’s Day holidays, both of which fall on that weekend.”
“Although we have an existing list of games we’ll be offering, every game played on a table top is eligible for play. If you request it, and someone will judge it, synDCon will offer it. Vendors will demonstrate their games, both new and established, in our vendor rooms and at our gaming tables, and there will be special events and seminars held in a 78-seat theater. Very few gaming conventions can offer all of these events, but the Gamers’ Syndicate was very fortunate to be able to reserve a first class site usually unavailable to gaming conventions.”
Filling the Gap
Referencing the deep-rooted, well-established, DC-area gaming community, Mr. Bodine continued, “We’re taking advantage of the gap that was created when Wizards of the Coast – the current publisher of Dungeons & Dragons – pulled DDXP from the DC area to Ft. Wayne, Indiana. This left the local gaming community without a large convention, and we’re going to fill that gap with a first class operation that not only grabs attendees from beyond the DC area, but also goes beyond the games published by Wizards. As a result, we expect a large turnout for our first convention.”
