Sept. 28, 2009 - PRLog -- The Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen takes place in December and with it brings the promise of 90 countries working together to find a way to keep global warming below 2 ° C by 2050.

In the UK, John Prescott is the driving force for the conference in his new role as the Council of Europe’s Rapporteur on Climate Change. This is a far cry from the former Labour MP’s nick name “two jags” acquired when it was revealed that he had not only one Jaguar as his private car but another as his ministerial vehicle.

It appears that times have certainly changed for Prescott and it has now been proposed that he will travel on public transport around the UK, advising young people on the importance of being green and helping tackle global warming.

As the old saying goes; charity begins at home, and the same could be said for the battle against climate change. Using ‘bags for life’, recycling and using public transport, as John Prescott is doing, can make a difference. However, for those that live in rural communities cars are often an essential part of everyday life, as they often have limited or no access to a train or bus service.  For those people who rely on their car as their only mode of transport, there is still a way of doing your bit to help cut climate change and reduce your carbon footprint.

Converting your car to autogas (liquid petroleum gas) could be the answer, as it releases far fewer emissions and pollutants than petrol and diesel. In fact, Independent Pan-European tests that were undertaken in 2003 revealed that petrol releases 20.3% more harmful CO2 emissions than autogas and that diesel vehicles emit up to 120 times more fine particles than autogas vehicles.

Use of LPG can also bring environmental benefits in the home and is another way to make a small but comfortable difference. One company, Northern Energy, based in the Yorkshire Dales, has been serving the rural community with its rural fuels since 1932. They pride themselves on their great service and family values, they also care deeply about providing rural communities with a cleaner alternative for their fuelling needs which is why they have created their new LPG Home Heat division, providing LPG for rural homes across the North of England.

Howard Illingworth, Managing Director, said: “We have been working with families in rural communities for years and we understand their needs and wishes to protect the beautiful environment they live in. Installing an LPG tank can help you and your family to become more ‘green’ in one easy step. If you are already an LPG user, you could easily switch suppliers and receive the added benefits of the friendly, personable service from LPG Home Heat.

“We provide a high standard of care and offer our customers the LPG subsidised boiler servicing scheme to ensure that they are getting a reliable and safe service.
“Our sister company, Northern Energy Autogas, provides the same cleaner and greener service for your car, giving you a more environmentally friendly running vehicle. Using LPG, either in your home or car, is a good way of doing your bit to tackle climate change.”
