Back pain is pervasive among American adults, but a new and disturbing trend is emerging among the nation's youth. Young children are suffering from back pain much earlier than previous generations, and the use of overweight backpacks and poorly designed computer workstations is a huge contributing factor. Spinal Health Month is a full month dedicated to bringing awareness to the community about this growing problem.
Dr. Dave Solecki of Solecki Chiropractic is asking that, "parents keep an eye on those heavy backpacks! Make sure your child's backpack weights no more than 5-10% of his or her body weight. If this becomes a problem, see if your child can keep the heaviest textbooks at home or school to avoid carrying them back and forth."
Solecki Chiropractic is encouraging parents to bring their students in for a backpack check throughout Spinal Health Month in October. Dr. Solecki also works with many students who have already developed back pain and is more than happy to meet with any concerned parents for a complimentary consultation.
