Award-winning Brandon Medical, the Leeds-based leading manufacturer of operating theatre equipment and AV systems, is to start production in India under an agreement with Trivitron Healthcare, India’s biggest medical technology provider.
The tie-up, with an initial $2million investment by the Leeds company, will enable Brandon to make shadow-less theatre lights in a new joint manufacturing facility at Trivitron’s medical technology park in Chennai (formerly Madras). Production will be under way by the end of the year.
Brandon’s managing director Graeme Hall comments: “India’s healthcare infrastructure is improving rapidly, for both the indigenous population and for health tourism. It is swiftly becoming a favourite destination to visit for surgical interventions for healthcare and is keen to match its infrastructure and technology with Europe and the US.

Trivitron’s managing director, Dr GSK Velu added: “The focus of our medical technology park is the manufacture of the best equipment for critical care, cardiac care, imaging and routine laboratory diagnostics. The objective is to make high quality, yet cost-effective products suited to the needs of developing countries and achieving savings of up to 40% on the cost of imported equipment.”
