During a press conference and campaign kickoff event being held at Country Inns and Suites, Mountaineer Conference Center, Beckley businessman Tony Martin will formally announce his candidacy for Mayor of Beckley on Friday, October 2, 2009.
Referred to as Tony 2011, The Campaign to Elect Tony O. Martin actually began taking shape just under a year ago. He has spent most of this time planning and speaking individually with residents and small business owners. Martin says he’s trying to understand what people really care about, what matters to them. When asked about his campaign’s unusually early start, Tony simply says, “I’m new at this and we have a lot of work to do”.
Along with his candidacy announcement for the City’s 2011 municipal elections, Tony Martin is expected to give a brief outline of his action plan for Beckley to a group of family, friends and campaign supporters. The event is to begin with a reception hour at 6 p.m. preceding the official announcement slated to begin around 7 p.m.
