By: Marcia Robinson, MBA The National Center for Education Statistics reported that in Fall of 2007, there were 2,383,351 African American students enrolled in post secondary education programs. Of that number approximately 13% were enrolled in schools designated as Historically Black Colleges or Universities, otherwise known as HBCU’s. Currently 103 American schools or roughly 3%, have that distinction. These students and universities are served by thousands of dedicated higher education professionals who work diligently with students and alumni who go on to become competitive employees who contribute to both domestic and global organizations. TheHBCUCareerCenter.com posts weekly career information through blog entries for HBCU students and alumni who want to stay focused on their own professional development while engaging in long term and short term higher education strategies. Resources are listed for students who want to pursue internships, study abroad, volunteer, attend grad school and have successful transitions from college into meaningful careers. A monthly career advice newsletter addresses the professional development needs of HBCU staff who want to successfully manage their own careers. The newsletter offers tips for HBCU staff on how to stay productive, energized and focused as they serve students. Since inception of the web site, professional employees from 39 HBCU’s are regular readers of the monthly career newsletter. Until October 31, 2009, HBCU's Human Resources departments can post up to two free job listings using discount code HBCU809 on the job board at http://www.thehbcucareercenter.com. # # # About TheHBCUCareerCenter: End
