Sept. 25, 2009 - PRLog -- Enslow Publishers, Inc. proudly announces the expansion of its Historical Fiction Adventures series.  Some of the newest titles in this series include The Locket: Surviving the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire and The Lucky Baseball: My Story in a Japanese-American Internment Camp.  Both of these titles are by award-winning author Suzanne Lieurance and are great for readers ages 9-up.

In the dramatic historical fiction novel, The Locket: Surviving the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire (ISBN 978-0-7660-2928-6), Ms. Lieurance introduces young readers to Galena. Galena is an eleven-year-old Russian-Jewish immigrant who lives in New York City with her family and works at the Triangle Shirtwaist Company factory with her older sister, Anya. The factory pays low wages and has terrible working conditions. Soon a horrible fire guts the factory leaving Galena with painful, horrific memories.  Ms. Lieurance describes how Galena uses the support of friends, family, and Jewish traditions to inspire her to fight for workers’ rights.

In The Lucky Baseball: My Story in a Japanese-American Internment Camp (ISBN 978-0-7660-3311-5), Ms. Lieurance tells the tale of Harry Yakamoto, a Japanese-American boy living in California in the 1940s.  Harry’s life changed forever after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941. Forced to move to a relocation center in the desert of California, Harry and his family have to start a new life behind barbed wire and guarded watchtowers.

Author Suzanne Lieurance has written over a dozen published books for children. She’s a fulltime freelance writer, offers a service called The Working Writer’s Coach, and is the founder and director of the National Writing for Children Center.
