The City of Vicksburg proclaims October as SCHF Month

The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation (SCHF) is honored to receive a proclamation from the Board of Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Vicksburg, Mississippi declaring October as Southern Cultural Heritage Month.
 
Sept. 25, 2009 - PRLog -- The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation (SCHF) is honored to receive a proclamation from the Board of Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Vicksburg, Mississippi declaring October as Southern Cultural Heritage Month.   This proclamation states that the SCHF Foundation inspires the citizens of Vicksburg and throughout the region through artistic, cultural and educational programs that uplift and transform our community; creates programs and events in all art forms that reflect many diverse experiences and perspectives; the appreciation of the full diversity and complexity of the SCHF is crucial for the common good of our local and regional community; the Foundation plays a leading role in shaping public attitudes about the art’s valuable role for future generations; creates events that touch our deepest emotions and builds bridges among people of all ages, abilities, races, and religions; the city of Vicksburg is the home of many talented and hard-working artists, teachers, musicians, and volunteers that support the efforts of the Foundation,

The SCHF has organized the month of October completely full of events including dinner and luncheon theatres with John Maxwell, a writing workshop, a free concert by the MS School for Math and Science Stage Band and Choir, Classics in the Courtyard concert series, ballet for kids, a free tour day, free after school Art Program, the Annual Over the River Run, and a financial workshop.

The Foundation is supported in part by funding from the Mississippi Arts Commission, a state agency, and in part, from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, and the generous support of the Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation individual and corporate members, the City of Vicksburg, and various appropriations.

The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation, a non-profit organization, maintains the Southern Cultural Heritage Center in Vicksburg, Mississippi. The Center is a Mississippi Landmark property and is list on the National Register of Historic Places. It is formerly the St. Francis Xavier Convent and Academy and is one of the most architecturally and historically significant city blocks in downtown. The Foundation is committed to preserving the history and architecture of the Cultural Center, while offering cultural, artistic and educational programs for the community.
