Ambassador R.M. Marty M. Natalegawa of the Republic of Indonesia to Address Adelphi University

Adelphi University is pleased to welcome Ambassador R.M. Marty M. Natalegawa, the permanent representative of the Republic of Indonesia to the United Nations, who will present the lecture “Indonesia: Regional Role, Global Reach.”
 
Sept. 25, 2009 - PRLog -- The event will take place on Wednesday, November 11, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. in Adelphi’s Thomas Dixon Lovely Ballroom in the Ruth S. Harley University Center, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY. The lecture is sponsored by Adelphi’s International Initiatives Committee (IIC), and is free and open to the public.

Ambassador Nataegawa, was appointed permanent representative to the United Nations (U.N.) in September, 2007. He has served as president of the Security Council and chairman of the U.N. Security Council Sanctions Committee on the Democratic Republic of the Congo from 2007 to 2008. He has also held the positions of chairman of the Asia Group in 2008, co-facilitator of the president of the general assembly for the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights in 2008, and chairman of the United Nations Special Committee on Decolonization (C-24) for 2008 and 2009.

Ambassador Natalegawa had also previously served as ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the Court of St. James and Ireland between 2005 and 2007. During this time, he wrote extensively on topics relating to Indonesia, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), East Asia, and counter-terrorism, among others. His findings were presented at many institutions such as Cambridge University, Oxford University, and the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Ambassador Natalegawa obtained his Ph.D. in philosophy at the Australian National University in 1993, M.A. in philosophy at Corpus Christi College, University of Cambridge in 1985, and B.S. degree at the London School of Economics and Political Science in 1984.

The International Initiatives Committee (IIC) is a campus-wide group of faculty, administrators, and students charged with infusing courses and campus events with internationalized content. The IIC allows the University to offer dynamic programs such as its acclaimed Ambassador Series in intimate settings so students, faculty, and the public have the opportunity to hear first-hand, global perspectives on issues of international concern.
