Never before has Pan-African culture and fashion been melded with modern designs to create a new and unparalleled style. On Friday September 18th, The DRC Clothing Co. did just that. DRC utilized fashionSPARK's (http://www.sparkcon.com) outdoor runway event to debut designs from it's Pe No Chao Collection (http://drc144k.blogspot.com/
fashionSpark is the fashion showcase segment of Raleigh, NC's SparkCon - a four day, volunteer-coordinated event highlighting the area's creative class. fashionSPARK showcased the work of thirteen brands to an audience of more than 2000. DRC had the distinction of being one of only a handful of lines represented at the show since it's inception four years ago. This year's theme was "Wear What You Are" and The DRC Clothing Co. had something special planned for their audience.
"Wear What You Are has always been a motif embodied by our line", says Eric Ndelo, Co-Founder of The DRC Clothing Co.,"Our line is based in the philosophy that what you wear can be an expression of not only who you are, but also what you believe in."
The biggest surprise The DRC Clothing Co. had in store for attendees is their foray into women's dresses and skirts - created in collaboration with emerging designer Jessica Mayela. "With the Pe No Chao line we wanted to expand the reality of our tag line 'It's Cool To Be Conscious', says Roderick Vakala. "In putting models in high fashion and streetwear we want to show our customers that we have something for you...everyday...every situation."
The DRC Clothing Co. partnered with Urban Kween Collekshun (UKC) Jewelry (http://www.ukcjewelry.com) for accessories. Sister duo Amani and Noni Montaque coordinated make-up and styling while Atomic Salon was on hand to style model's hair.
With global success online and throughout its home state, The DRC Clothing Co. is branching out to larger markets with much anticipation.
On September 26, 2009 the label will be featured prominently in ForceAfrik's "African Dance Exhibition 2009" being held in Washington, DC at George Washington University's Lisner Auditorium. (http://village.africanpath.com/
On October 16, 2009 The DRC Clothing Co. invades Atlanta for a night of fashion, poetry, art and music, with "I Love Fashion": A Night When Music & Fashion Speaks. Sponsored by DRC Clothing Co. with musical performances by: Frank the IV (New Orleans Funk) and SKY HY (Atl. Hip Hop), at the historic Apache Cafe.
