WEST PLAINS, MO: GAMMILL QUILTING SYSTEMS, the world’s leading manufacturer of hand- and computer-guided longarm quilting systems, in partnership with the Quilts of Valor Foundation (QOVF), Seaford, DE; is proud to announce the scheduled unveiling of a symbolically painted longarm quilting machine as a tribute to American patriotism; Thursday, October 15 at 10:00 a.m. during a special Ceremony marking the opening of the 2009 International Quilt Festival, Houston TX.
Designed to serve as a patriotic symbol of homage and healing for America’s war wounded, the custom painted Gammill hand-guided quilting machine bears images of the United States Stars & Stripes, an American Eagle, the Constitution, Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima, and a Saluting Soldier. The machine pays tribute to and thanks all servicemen and women who proudly serve the United States Military.
Catherine Roberts, 2003 founder of the Quilts of Valor Foundation, commented, "The imagery depicted on the machine is both stunning and moving. The detail and craftsmanship of the illustrations are truly remarkable. The machine boldly represents our Organization’
Gammill commissioned artist Christopher Cofield to paint the machine, which took approximately 50-hours to airbrush. Ronald Parker, Gammill, Inc., CEO stated, “The Patriotic machine has been an honor to create in partnership with the Quilts of Valor Foundation. It is symbolic of the brave servicemen and women who have given their lives to defend our liberty. I am pleased we could design and build this machine in their honor.”
Quilts of Valor has enlisted Juilliard School graduate, Actor and Singer Ross Chitwood to sing the National and American Anthem during the unveiling Ceremony. The machine will be on display and in use making Wartime Quilts of Valor throughout the Festival.
