The Devil Made Me Do It!

Do you find yourself starting a diet only long enough to give in to that little voice in your head? Once you give in to the impulse cravings, do you feel a strong sense of failure and guilt?

Does your diet go out the window until you start all over again?  This is called yo-yo dieting.  Yo-yo dieting is usually a pattern of getting started on a weight loss program, losing some weight or in some cases reaching your goal, then slipping back into the habits you fought so hard to change, only to find yourself back to where you started. Then repeating these behaviors over a period of time. Most times these patterns of yo-yo dieting are symptoms of a deep seated fear of success, anxiety, stress or depression.

Sometimes this type of fear of failure comes from a broken record in your mind, the “bad parent” saying “you always mess things up,” “you will never amount to much.” That is a common source of this pattern, and you need to recognize that inner voice that causes failure in order to defeat it.

Apparently, there are many psychological reasons why we experience failure and we all experience it at one point or another in our lives.  All of us need to feel a sense of self-efficacy and confidence. If competence and confidence are perceived as coming from “how good we are”, then we tend to give up quickly and protect our egos in the face of failure.

Did you know that it’s been proven that writing in a daily journal can help you identify emotionally-connected patterns and eating behaviors?  That’s a fact.  Writing down your emotions when you suddenly have an impulse to run for the refrigerator is key to identifying eating disorders and behaviors.

Since impulse eating is often a symptom of an emotional state, writing your feelings down in a special place is helpful in identifying the emotions that trigger these behaviors.  Once you’re able to identify the patterns, you’ll be able to redirect and defeat them.

The Walk2bFit.com Success Team has designed an online journal to help you on your weight loss journey.  Visit the home page at http://www.walk2bfit.com or click on MyJournal and register for your free online diary today.  It’s a tool designed to help you with your weight loss success and it’s 100% confidential and secure.  You can access your journal 24/7 and customize it with photos of things, people or places that can inspire you to success.
