The free seminar will feature presentations on green home design and construction, as well as SIP panels and renewable energy options for new homes. An Open House at a nearby Timberpeg® timber frame green hybrid home, built by Old Hampshire Designs, will follow the seminar from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
Architect Jeremy Bonin, AIA NCARB LEED AP, of Bonin Architects & Associates, PLLC, New London, NH will present the topic “Green Home Design”, which will help homeowners start thinking about their energy efficient home design and introduce green building materials and systems that can significantly impact a home’s energy usage. For those interested in timber framing, a specialty in green building, Jay Tucker will present the seminar topic “Timber Frame Homes”, showcasing the types of timber frame systems commonly used and typical costs involved. Tucker will also discuss Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) and their benefits.
Kimberly Bonin, co-owner of Bonin Architects & Associates, says the seminar is a great start for anyone interested in building a new home, addition, or renovating their existing home. “The topics we cover in our seminars are very timely and help homeowners start thinking about the features and systems they want to incorporate into their home. Guests can also have individual time with the experts,” she adds. “After the seminar and at the open house guests can talk with the architect and builder about their specific plans, or speak with a realtor if they are looking for land in the New London / Sunapee area.”
An Open House will follow the seminar at a nearby Timberpeg hybrid home which features a solar energy system. Describing the 3800 square foot home, Tucker states, “The homeowner’s goal of having a beautiful, energy efficient home within their specific budget was accomplished by combining timber framing with conventional construction and incorporating multiple insulation systems. Going a step further, they added a solar energy system which will reduce their carbon footprint while maximizing the return on their investment.”
