About the film -
Here in the Amazon jungle, where the spirit world and the natural world merge, Shake has reached the highest honor a Yanomamö shaman can attain. Traveling in the spirit to an enemy’s village to loose your power results in many deaths, and the reverence of your people. Shake has possession of many spirits, but the Spirit most feared by all Yanomamö is one they call Yai Wanonabälewä
Yai Wanonabälewä:
The Enemy God has been screened at festivals in the U.S. and Europe, garnering multiple awards and nominations. Many people comment on the power and uniqueness of the film. Here is what Arpa Int’l Film Festival Director, Alex Kalognomos says, "This challenges you. This rewards you. This opens your heart. It took the integrity and the truth that is inherent in documentary film making and put it into a feature film in a way I had never seen before. This is something that is totally innovative about this film."
The film will screen at 7:00 PM on Saturday and 3:00 PM on Sunday. Producers Tom Khazoyan and Matt Castagna will be on hand at the screenings to talk about the film. You can purchase tickets and find more information at: http://www.DenverFilm.org.
The cinema’s potential to transform as well as reflect society in all its diversity is what the Denver Film Society aims to recognize and realize. Since 1978, the DFS has worked to promote the medium as both an art form and a civic forum, developing a program that includes year-round screenings, community outreach projects and renowned special events.
