Parker Urban Greenscapes, located in Scotch Plains, NJ is among the first companies in the nation to have two employees accredited as Green Roof Professionals by the industry organization Green Roofs for Healthy Cities.
“The Parker Companies continue to strive to keep their employees up to date with the latest educational opportunities that are offered within their industry and we are very proud that Jay Satava and Tom Walsh are among the first to successfully complete the program,” said Rich Parker.
In order to be accredited, these individuals had to successfully complete a multi-disciplinary exam encompassing five areas of concentration. Accreditation verifies that these individuals have attained the level of knowledge of best practices associated with the successful design, installation, and maintenance of green roof systems. “Industry experts from both the black and the green arts have worked hard over the past six years to develop training materials and a professional exam that covers best practices across the spectrum of professionals, in order to improve multi-disciplinary knowledge and practice in the field,” said Jeffrey L Bruce, Chair of Green Roofs for Healthy Cities.
Parker Urban Greenscapes is a division of the Parker Companies that specializes in designing, installing and maintaining green roofs and green walls. Green Roofs are vegetative covering over rooftops of commercial buildings, parking garages, schools, homes, and anywhere else where a roof exists. Green walls are vegetative covering on vertical surfaces both indoors and outdoors. Green roofs and walls have many benefits including insulating buildings, reducing toxins in the air, mitigating urban heat island effect, reducing storm water runoff, and reducing HVAC needs of buildings. Many of the plants used on these projects are grown and acclimated within the many greenhouses at Parker. “Parker Urban Greenscapes has the expertise that brings rooftops and walls to life,” said Parker. “We are committed to doing our part to build a better, greener earth by installing and maintaining green roofs and green walls throughout the country.”
