Sept. 23, 2009 - PRLog -- BIRMINGHAM, AL – The only nonprofit organization dedicated to improving quality of life through better foot health is releasing a foot care video in conjunction with Active Aging Week (Sept. 21-25).

The 23-minute video was produced by the Institute for Preventive Foot Health and is narrated by Robert Thompson, executive director of IPFH. It is intended to raise awareness of preventive foot health as a largely unrecognized concern and its simple yet elegant solutions – foot protection and foot soft tissue (skin) management – as a means to achieving greater quality of life.

“We are releasing our video nationally during Active Aging Week in recognition of the fact that foot health is such a key component to remaining active as we age,” Thompson said.

Key elements of the video are findings from a nationwide survey IPFH commissioned on foot health, which show foot problems are vastly widespread, perhaps more so than anyone imagined. “A lot of what ails people’s feet can be prevented,” Thompson said. “Helping people become aware of preventive foot health and informing them of what they can do about it is the purpose of IPFH in general and this video in particular.”

Other components of the video are a review of reasons “Why Good Feet Go Bad;” an orientation to “The Integrated Solution™,” which is unique to every person and a brief discussion of some “Foot Care Recommendations.”

Also included is a brief discussion of IPFH, its history and mission.

As part of Active Aging Week, IPFH is making the video available to senior living communities, continuing care retirement communities, independent living centers, assisted living centers, skilled nursing facilities and other places where older adults (and/or the people who care for them) can view the DVD and be helped to understand how feet and preventive foot health can so dramatically affect the quality of their lives.

“Beyond Active Aging Week, the video is also appropriate for organizations that employ people who stand on their feet, working on hard surfaces,” Thompson said.
