Speaking at a function organised by the Press Club of India to honour him, Sulabh International founder and initiator of Sanitation Movement in the country, Dr Pathak said he is humbled by the recognition of his inexpensive and easily accessible technology which had not just helped change the lives of lakhs of people, but also brought about a revolutionary metamorphosis in dignified living.
''The journey to this began 40 years back and today more than two dozen countries across the world are benefiting from Sulabh's technology which is cheap, accessible to all, consumes less water, recycles waste water, changes hard water to potable water inexpensively and reduces global warming.'' It was a thought, begun in 1974, that has travelled abroad and was equally beneficial to developed countries, as far as water saving is concerned, as much for the under-developed ones, he said adding, ''All are welcome to benefit from our research and technological leap, which has not been patented.'' Dr Pathak, who was awarded the 'Stockholm Water Prize 2009' on March 25, will formally receive the award at a Royal Award Ceremony during the World Water Week in Stockholm, Sweden, this August.
