The new large CNC machining centre will revolutionise the way medium and large sized components are machined for the rail, mining, defence and steel industries.
The new CNC machining centre has tables rated to 20 tonnes, commonly referred to as a pallet changer. That is, while a work piece is being machined on one pallet, the next pallet is being readied for rapid changeover and re-commencement of machining. This CNC machine will be able to machine medium and large size work pieces with greater efficiency for multiple work pieces.
“Our new CNC machine will be able to provide significant efficiencies for medium size work pieces that have reasonable volume by jigging up multiple work pieces on each pallet, then unloading and loading multiple work pieces on the second pallet” said Steve Zakaria, Business Development Manager at Baker & Provan.
This large CNC machining centre was commissioned in August 2009, weighing in at 112 tonnes. Along with its existing 12 metre CNC Floor Borer, with a 6 axes rotary table, makes Baker & Provan one of the modern and largest CNC machining shops in Australia.
The large CNC machining centre sits well with Baker & Provan existing floor borer with a bed rated to handle jobs up to 100 tonne, with a machining envelope of 12 metres long by 4 metres high. This machine also has an attractive feature being a large CNC, 6 axes, rotary table that can handle work pieces up to 30 tonnes.
The new machine will complement the company’s existing range of 12 CNC machines and heavy fabrication capability at their 6,800 square metre facility in Sydney. This will also provide better turnaround with further flexibility to move jobs to bigger machines when the customer needs to have urgent jobs completed fast.
