Bruce Bloom quit a high level management position to start an advertising and marketing agency on his kitchen table. Within a few months he took office space in New York and began building his client list, and his staff. Eighteen years later he reaped the rewards of his management skills, selling his company to an international consortium of agencies.
Today he is the president of Blazer Books, Inc., a publishing and consulting company he founded. Blazer is now moving into Internet operations, and is online with a blog devoted to information for owners and managers of small businesses.
The site, Ideas For Small Businesses, is filled with proven profit strategies and ideas for business growth.
"There's a lot of academic, ivory tower stuff they teach managers today," says Bloom. "It may be right for General Electric, but not for the entrepreneur who's working his butt off to put a small business on the map. Our objective is to show how to do a lot with a little, how to work smart. Our emphasis is marketing, because that's where most small companies make it or break it. It's also the area of our greatest experience and expertise."
Before he began his ad agency, Bloom had been a manager for CBS, and for a division of Dun & Bradstreet. He is a graduate of Cornell, and was a captain in the Air Force.
