Sept. 22, 2009 - PRLog -- Hawaii Comedian Becomes Target in Coveted Standup Comedy Bootcamp Competition

Hawaii resident & aspiring comedian Dawn Michelle Nash entered an online competition for free admission ($999 Value) into the coveted Kyle Cease’s Standup Comedy Bootcamp in Universal City, CA in October. The Standup Comedy Bootcamp is an intense 60 hours of comedy training by some of the top headliners including Kyle Cease (Winner of 2009 COMEDY CENTRAL STANDUP SHOWDOWN, 2006 Top Selling Comedy CD) , Jon Lovitz (SNL & Variety of movies) , Louie Anderson and more. The contest is based upon blog posts people leave on KyleCease.com/blog where people could nominate themselves or a funny friend telling them why they deserve to win. Kyle Cease would pick the winner based off who he felt had the best blog post.

Over thirty aspiring comics nominated themselves including Dawn, but unlike the other contestants Dawn asked her friends and family to nominate her as well. Other comics, friends, family, even Dawn’s own children went on the blog telling them why they should pick Dawn to win and that is where the controversy began.

With so many people posting in support of Dawn, other people began to complain that they wouldn’t stand a chance in the competition against her. Some nominee’s started complaining on the blog as well as began to email Cease about how unfair it was that Dawn had so much support. One nominee said "it's not fair because most comics don't have friends". Despite all of the positive support and doing everything right within the guidelines the other nominees felt like they had been victimized by her overwhelming support and used it to throw dirt at Nash. One nominee, “Miles5000”, said he should win because “People from Hawaii aren’t funny”. Another contestant sarcastically said “Dawn should win so she can escape that hell hole Hawaii” implying she shouldn’t win because she already has the pleasure of living in paradise.

One day before the competition was scheduled to end Kyle Cease himself posted on the blog saying “I want to say that Dawn Nash HAS been brilliant with her out of the box style thinking, and done a lot of cool ideas to show a real clever passion. I love that.” But then goes on to say “if I were a contestant, and literally just changed my inner question from “Is that person going to win?” to “HOW CAN I BEAT ALL OF THESE”. Cease then goes on to extend the competition until this Friday to give the other nominees the opportunity to show him that they want it more than Dawn Michelle. Dawn, once a front runner in the competition, is now a marked target and now considers herself the underdog.

"I feel like this was his way of saying to the other contestants to not give up because I'm not going to win. I am really bummed that the negative actions of others out-weigh all the positive actions so many people took. I still want to go and I'm still gonna do my best to win." Says Nash. "Regardless of what happens, I am very thankful and moved by all the love & support from my friends & family. It means a lot to me".

Whoever wins the competition will win free admission into the standup comedy bootcamp at a $999 value, a 5 minute taped set performed live at the Jon Lovitz Comedy Club, personalized training with some of the world’s best comics as well as exposure to club owners, booking, casting & talent agents.

The competition is now scheduled to end this Friday, September 25. Despite the controversy Dawn Michelle is still trying to win and now needs your help more than ever. She asks that you go to KyleCease.com/blog and click on comments and post positive reasons why Dawn Michelle should be the winner.
