The centre will be built on 150 Rai(240000m2)
Anchalee Wanichthepphabutr, deputy secretary to the prime minister, said that the centre would meet international standards and allow Phuket to appeal to the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) market as well as attracting new tourism.
A final design and impact study could take several months and it is hoped that parts of the centre will be operational within three years.
The idea of locating the centre in the north of the island makes sense with the close proximity to Phuket International Airport and several large scale resorts including Outrigger West Sands and Mai Khao Dreams.
