The National Fluid Power Association (NFPA) is building on the great success of the December 2008 Fluid Power Challenge by expanding to four locations in December 2009. The Fluid Power Challenge is a competition that challenges eighth grade students to solve an engineering problem using fluid power. Students work in teams to design and build a fluid power mechanism, and then compete against other teams in a timed competition. The Fluid Power Challenge:
•• Actively engages students in learning about fluid power.
•• Gives support and resources to teachers for science and technology curriculum.
•• Encourages students to acquire a diversity of teamwork, engineering and problem solving skills.
•• Introduces eighth graders to careers in the fluid power industry.
•• Helps build a strong workforce for tomorrow.
Why should you sponsor the Fluid Power Challenge?
Your contribution to this important and highly visible NFPA education program is an excellent opportunity for your company to generate interest in fluid power engineering at the important middle school level. Of the students who participated in the December 2008 Challenge, 73% expressed an interest in a fluid power career on the post-test/evaluation.
Sponsors making donations of $350 or more will be identified on promotional materials including:
•• recognition on posters
•• an invitation to attend the Challenge Day
•• acknowledgement on the NFPA web site
•• the satisfaction of knowing you are helping to develop your future workforce
