J.a.y. Young (Next Lone Star Great)

Jay Young’s career equals perseverance. Never an artist to gain widespread national or regional attention, he has stormed forward under many of radar working the Texas underground scene.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Sep 21, 2009 -
Perseverance.  A word heavily used in the music business when describing an artist on the lip of stardom after many years of work through underground and independent mediums.  A word an artist can hang their hat on no matter the results.  Without the love for music, perseverance likely wouldn’t be attributed to an artist’s success.
Jay Young’s career equals perseverance.  Never an artist to gain widespread national or regional attention, he has stormed forward under many of radar working the Texas underground scene.  In his sixth year with Houston based Showtyme Entertainment, he has released a handful of work and worked with many of the artists that have seen the national success from the Lone Star state.
Although the delay of his debut album due to distribution hang ups dealt a setback in the summer of 2009, Jay remained on track and returns with his new street album, Exordium.   The adequately titled 14 track offering showcases Jay Young juggling in house production supplied by Comfort with a touch of industry production to keep the mixtape essence intact.
Standout tracks include the Lyfe Jennings assisted “Cops Up”, “Swagger”, “On The Go” and “Show You How To Do That” featuring Magno and Boss Hogg Outlaw Killa Kyleon.
With plans of a quadrology to Exordium, a DJ Chuck T presented mixtape and other releases to close out 2009 prior to a first quarter release of the reworked debut, Never Seen It Coming it now looks like perseverance can be used in the same sentence as Jay Young.

Over the years, independent record labels from Houston, TX have been a dime a dozen. They're lifeline usually short, fueled by regional hits. then fade to obscurity in the ever changing world of Houston's underground. Showtyme Entertainment has stayed the test of time. Sure, there's been no radio hit but the resume does show strong quality releases and establishing their artists on a grander scale. Jay Young, the longest tenured artist in the stable has been working the mixtape circuit for years and is only months away from his debut. D-Jap sets the stage for the rest of the label, based heavily on his lyrical delivery of grimey street tales. Sure Showtyme Enterainment may not have awards on their mantle, their uncanny business moves and strong artists may change that soon.
