The DC-based arts organization Liberated Muse Productions announces their new exhibit "Celebration of Freedom" which features the work of visual artists from the DC metro area whose work is included in the book Liberated Muse Volume I: How I Freed My Soul and appears on the website www.LiberatedMuse.com. The exhibit is currently showcased at the venue The Potter's House on Columbia Road, NW in DC. The exhibit was curated by Sharon Burton, a local mixed-media artist who owns the company Authentic Contemporary Art and it runs from Sept.11 to Dec. 1, 2009.
The artists featured in the exhibit are Prudence Bonds, Keisha Carroll, CHOKE, Sherry Burton-Ways, Nijila Mumin, Shan'ta Monroe, Stephan Cox, James Terrell, Jade Andwele, and Sharon Burton.
"Celebration of Freedom" enjoyed a soft opening on Sept.11 during a live benefit concert held at the Potter's House featuring performers Ozara Ode, Quineice Clarkson, Gary Young and Colie Williams. Contributors to the book anthology Liberated Muse Volume I: How I Freed My Soul also made appearances and signed copies of the book with the book's editor Khadijah Ali-Coleman who hosted the event. The event raised funds for the artist collective The Saartjie Project (www.thesaartjieproject.org)
The artist reception for visual artists featured in "Celebration of Freedom" will take place on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 4pm at the Potter's House. Light refreshments will be served and copies of the book Liberated Muse Volume I: How I Freed My Soul will be available for purchase. Call 240-413-1130 for more information.
