Sept. 21, 2009 - PRLog -- In the specific context of the speech delivered by the US President in Cairo and his recent message for Muslims worldwide in this holy month of Ramadan, Dr. Naseer Homoud’ on the occasion of the World Peace Day, has written an open letter to the President, highlighting the needs and urgencies of the current situations in the Arab World and also the ways and means to tackle them in a holistic and purposeful manner. Hailing Mr. Barak Obama as the symbol of an undying youthful hope and visionary leadership in his letter, Dr. Naseer taking into his account the global concerns regarding the contemporary issues and challenges faced by the Islam in particular and the whole humanity in general, expresses the unavoidable scenario of not endeavoring in the direction of a peaceful solution of the various problems and eventually putting them to rest.
Dr. Naseer in his letter, talks about the pertinent emphasis the US President should put on the issues surrounding the whole world today. International peace and security, the divide between the East and the West, particularly between the West led by the United States of America and the Arab Muslims, the Arab-Israeli conflict, global Nuclear disarmament, democracy, stabilization, human rights etc are some of the most important points on which Dr. Naseer focuses in his letter. Ensuring human rights, as Dr. Naseer shows, can be the basic agenda for the US President, through which many conflicts can be addressed.
Asserting his firm belief in the success of the attempts shown by the US President to bridge the gap between the USA and the Islamic lands and peoples, Dr. Naseer tries to communicate with him many other issues and challenges as well as other means to check them. For example, he shows the ever greater need to accommodate and engage the power of youth in the nation building activities whether they are political, social or economic in nature. The youth, being the most formidable and innovative stock, can prove to be a boon to the contemporary as well as current problems. The changing global dynamics with all its merits and demerits must have an answer in the youth, as , Dr. Naseer manifests in his letter.
The letter puts into light the fact that the Arab world with all its conflicts, trauma, threat, instability, illiteracy, and poverty can only be approached through means of negotiation and peace settlements, and not by imposing certain specific projects of development and progress from above. Giving space to the local prospects in analyzing and evaluating their own traditions and customs with the advantages of the modern tools of freedom, democracy and human rights is the most suitable way of solving the crisis. Congratulating Mr. Obama for his insightful efforts towards the democracy promotion in the Arab world; for his rightly expressing and echoing the culture of Islam and its holistic principles in Cairo speech; and for his firm commitments and strong will to establish peace, , Dr. Naseer says that the entire Islamic community is hopeful that the US President’s words would certainly be matched by some practical actions unlike his predecessors who made the retrogressive imprints.
Finally wishing Mr. Barak Obama all the best in his efforts towards peace and stability in the world, , Dr. Naseer brings to light the immense contribution and selfless services provided by the civil society, particularly the NGOs, in addition to the governments and states. He argues that more NGOs should be set up to promote the modern values of a nation state and society and to fight for the human rights, natural justice, freedom, peace, stability and democracy in the Arab world. In this process, he proposes to form an NGO named after the US President and controlled by a team selected by him, “Obama Foundation on Co Existence and Development & Culture” which main target would be to involve and engage common people in multifarious peace and development projects; to represent the interests of all economic and social classes; to adopt local and international programs in all areas that contribute to the promotion of the principles of democracy and human rights; to spread the values of tolerance and coexistence inherited long ago; and to address the challenges facing the world via sustainable development programs to eradicate poverty and hunger and to achieve the rest of the Millennium Development Goals.
