Add to that great harmony notes and the combination is mesmerizing and astounding to the ear. This is a talent that makes great acts like Deanna Cash and James Paycheck such a success and a joy to experience, especially at live performances.

The most important thing about singing a duet, is finding a partner, that has a singing voice that blends well with yours. There should be some chemistry between you, that makes singing a love song believable. When you sing to each other, your eyes should meet, and it should show feelings between you both. It is a form of acting and takes practice. The term Harmony is used to refer to additional notes that harmonize with the melody. The melody are the essential notes that form the basic structure of any tune.

Harmony is another way of saying 'form a chord with the melody'. A chord is when 2 or more notes are played or sung at once. These notes are often referred to as triads. There are also minor chords and diminished or augmented chords, but that theory is better left for the more accomplished..

The most basic chord for harmonizing is the 1,3,5 chord. The 1 represents the 'root' note. The 3 represents the 3rd, or the note 2 places up. The 5 represents the 5th, or the note 4 places up from the root and 2 places up from the 3rd. You can also add a 7th and/or the 1 (root) note up or down an octave.

Although this form of singing can be practiced, it is so much more profound if the couple can perform these feats with relative natural effort which is noticeable to the listeners making the music seem more fluent and relaxed.

Harmony requires at least 2 voices and can be done with any number of additional voices.
