Sears Distribution Center is LEED Silver Certified

SEARS DISTRIBUTION CENTER IS LEED® SILVER CERTIFIED
Ware Malcomb Designs LEED for New Construction Distribution Building for ProLogis & Sears

(September 2009) Stockton, California – Sears Distribution Center’s core & shell is LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design – www.usgbc.org/leed) Silver certified receiving 36 points under the New Construction Category.  ProLogis (www.prologis.com) is the developer and owner of the project which is located on 45 acres at ProLogis Park Duck Creek in Stockton, California.

Ware Malcomb (www.waremalcomb.com) provided architectural design services for ProLogis’ 780,000 square foot, build-to-suit industrial distribution facility for Sears (www.searsholdings.com).  This facility included nearly 755,000 square feet of storage/warehouse space with shipping/receiving areas and a drivers’ room.  The project also included approximately 6,000 square feet of office build-out containing private and open office, break and conference rooms and approximately 2,000 square feet of assembly area. The exterior design features unique architectural elements including a suspended trellis canopy, bold entry articulation and consistent architectural treatment (paint, panel massing, clerestory windows) across the entire façade.

The building design and construction incorporated a variety of sustainable solutions including the following:
•   75% of construction waste was diverted from disposal
•   30% of materials were incorporated using recycled materials
•   20% of materials were extracted and manufactured within the region
•   50% of wood-based materials and products are Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified
•   30% reduction of water consumption
•   50% reduction in the use of potable water

This project will also receive “Energy Star” designation from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA www.energystar.gov). Ware Malcomb’s design included daylighting in over 90% of the space via skylights and clerestory windows.  As a result of the sustainable design features, this facility is one of the most energy efficient warehouses in the country and is predicted to save Sears approximately $400,000 in lighting energy use on a yearly basis.

Building construction was completed in October 2008. Big-D Pacific Corporation (www.bdpbuilders.com) of Pleasanton, California was the General Contractor.
