The Ultimate Thailand Explorer competition has been designed to promote Thailand's top five destinations;
Competition winners will be required to film a video diary of their trip and submit this to social networking sites such as www.twitter.com, www.facebook.com and www.Youtube.com, as well as blog sites in order to encourage other travellers to visit Thailand. They then stand a chance of winning the ultimate prize of 10,000 USD, a holiday to Thailand or a video camera.
Tourism officials say they were inspired by Australia's recent highly publicised campaign dubbed the "Best Job in the World." The contest to serve as the caretaker on a tropical Australian island for six months, while promoting the destination on a blog, drew 35,000 applicants and worldwide media attention.
"We got the idea from Australia," said TAT official Phanom Kaributra, who is coordinating the contest. "We think it's a good way to use social networking to promote Thailand."
Entrants are required to post a video clip on www.ultimatethailandexplorer.com highlighting why they should be chosen to be one of the five 'explorers'. Twenty-five semi-finalists will be chosen by TAT by 15th October and the six winning explorers selected by on-line voting by 12th November 2009.
To date thirty-four entries have been received from countries including United States, UK, Australia, France, Jamaica, India and Indonesia - the competition is still wide open. Make Phuket your destination of choice and we'll treat the lucky winners to lunch on the beach!
