Mount Mercy Awarded Iowa Commission of Persons with
Disabilities Employer of the Year Award
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Sept 16, 2009) – Mount Mercy College has been
awarded the Iowa Commission of Persons with Disabilities Employer of the Year
Award. Mount Mercy was nominated by Options of Linn County, a publically
operated service provider dedicated to providing employment services to adults with
disabilities. Mount Mercy is the second largest employer of Options, partnering with
the non-profit since 1987.
Mount Mercy was the recipient of the 2007 and 2008 Employer of the Year
Award, nominated by Goodwill of the Heartland. The Employer of the Year Award
recognizes employers in the public or private sector for outstanding achievements in
enhancing employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
Mount Mercy has a reputation for reaching out in service to those with
disabilities. Mount Mercy’s Best Buddies program pairs Mount Mercy students with
persons with an intellectual disability, providing one-on-one friendship and the
chance for persons with disabilities to benefit from a friendship outside of their own
environment.
