Macedonian Film Festival

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Sep 18, 2009 – The fourth annual Macedonian Film Festival is being held this year on October 15, 17 and 18 at the Innis College Town Hall theatre. As always, the festival will feature an exciting line-up of films spotlighting the many talents of Macedonian filmmakers.

Opening the festival on Thursday, October 15 and making its North American debut is the much anticipated film A Name is a Name, directed by Norwegian- Icelandic filmmaker Sigurjon Einarsson and produced by Jason Miko. The film is a documentary –style road film exploring the “name issue” that Macedonia has been faced with since declaring its independence from Yugoslavia in 1991.

Others films featured this year are the Stole Popov classics The Red Horse and Gipsy Magic, Cash and Marry and Does it Hurt: The First Macedonian Dogma. In addition, the festival will be screening a variety of short and animated films by emerging and established filmmakers.

About the Macedonian Film Festival

The Macedonian Film Festival in Toronto made its debut in May 2006 and was the only one of its kind at the time. Since then, Macedonian film festivals have been held in London, England (2008 and 2009) and New York City (2008) with plans being made for a festival in Australia. The success of the Macedonian Film Festival continues to bring Macedonian film to the forefront of Canadian consciousness and educate those with little knowledge of the nation’s tumultuous history.
