The Cruise Workstation, an iconic ‘low seat, rear tilt’ chair and desk combination developed following years of pioneering research by Okamura, has just launched to the UK market.  It provides luxurious style, comfort and support for the back and is now on sale in Back2, the specialist back care retailer in Wigmore Street, London.

The Cruise Workstation was designed as a result of pioneering research by Okamura and Keio University, Japan, which found that compared to the upright sitting posture, the low seat, rear tilt posture provides stability that makes it possible to work long hours at the computer, whether at home or in the office.  The Cruise Workstation is already creating a stir in the design world and was honoured for outstanding innovative design at the 2006 ‘red dot design awards’, the largest and most renowned design competition in the world.

Shigeo Mizutani from Okamura, comments: “Our designers at Okamura worked together with renowned Science and Technology professor, Nobutoshi Yamazaki, in order to determine the best posture for computer work.  By analysing physical characteristics, the research found that a well-relaxed posture stimulates blood flow and concentration, and the ultimate relaxed working style is the ‘low-seat, rear-tilt’ position.  Compared to an upright sitting posture, this concept makes it possible to work long hours at the computer.  By applying the data to develop a product that achieves the ideal work style, we created The Cruise Workstation which reduces stress on the body, thus encouraging a higher level of concentration.”

Ted Boyle, owner of Back2, the back care specialist who is selling the product adds: “A lot of our customers are those who have suffered years of back pain, and in many cases, their suffering could have easily been prevented by simply sitting in the correct position in a well manufactured chair. The Cruise Workstation is a sound investment for anyone spending long hours at their desk - a totally iconic piece of furniture which looks stylish in both the home and the office.”

The Cruise Workstation is fully supportive and easily adjustable. The transparent, mesh fabric in the chair supports the body and efficiently disperses weight. The wide headrest provides firm support to the back of the head, whilst the large elbow pads provide arm support.  The height, recline and tension on the chair is fully adjustable by levers underneath the seat. The height and angle of the desktop can be instantly changed to meet the position most comfortable for the body.

The Cruise Workstation is priced at £2,225.00 (+VAT) and is retailed exclusively at Back2, 28 Wigmore Street, London (nearest tubes: Bond Street / Oxford Street).  For further information, please telephone Back2 on: 020 7935 0351 or visit the website: www.back2.co.uk.
