Follow on Google News | Select Resorts in St Lucia Blog - Ti Kaye Village & Anse-La-Raye Fish FridayTravelling abroad is a fantastic perk of working in the travel industry and nothing shows this more than a Caribbean adventure with VIP treatment from Virgin Atlantic, more rum than coke in my drinks, and dancing at Anse-La-Raye Fish Friday!
By: Select Resorts The flight was as expected from a long haul, although I have to say the services of Virgin were excellent throughout the journey. The flight was first thing in the morning, the food was good and the choice of films was more impressive than Virgin Media! I also started to get to know my fellow travelers, of whom were 7 women between 26 and 65, and two guys in their twenties. They had traveled from Ireland, Scotland and England for this trip and most had never visited the Caribbean. On landing at Hewanorra airport in the South of the island, we bypassed the queues for immigration and security, and were fast tracked out of the airport. I did feel a little sorry for everyone else waiting in line, but also a little bit pleased with myself at the same time. Jumping in the mini van, reggae music on high, the first stop was at a bar for a Piton beer or Rum and Coke at a view point. It was raining but it didn’t put a dampener on our excitement! After two rum and cokes, I realized there was more rum than coke and made a note to self for rest of the week to be a little careful as the St Lucians don’t do things by half here! We then drove for about 1hr 15 mins to Ti Kaye Village, a beautiful hotel with the rooms set like little cottages on the hillside, some with sea views. My room had a terrace overlooking the sea with my own hammock. The little birds were really tame and came and sat on my hammock and took biscuits from my hand. Dinner at Ti Kaye Village was fab, then it was straight off to Anse-La-Raye Fish Friday. This happens every Friday night. It’s a street party that has been happening for hundreds of years, where locals set up BBQs on the street selling locally caught fresh fish, and with Caribbean music playing. It was really cool to see the locals dancing – boy can they bust some moves! Even the children were dancing like Britney and Justin Timberlake! It was just a short visit to the party, as we were all pretty tired from the days traveling. Having headed back to my room I wondered how I would sleep due the jungle noises outside my room! Anyway, in with the earplugs, tucked under my mosquito net and into bed. This is definitely a resort for those who want to be close to nature, as it was coming in my bedroom. At one point there was a gecko sat on the net right above my head, im sure he knew he was winding me up! I did however wake up at the crack of dawn due to the good old body clock, and got up to watch the sunrise in my hammock. Aaaah, bliss!
