An Interview with Angela Kelly

An interview with Cool vs. Cruel contestant Angela Kelly

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Sep 15, 2009 -
1. When did you first become interested in fashion design?
When I too Paris when I was ten, my grandmother took me and she sewed my cousin and I matching dresses, we even had matching hats and shoes too go with it. I know the photos will haunt me one day. But I helped my grandmother make the dresses and I'd always been riping apart my clothes and dressing funny. So I started taking private lessons with a friend of mine and we both had a chance too see eachother every week and he didn't keep sewing but I did.

2. What made you decide to go into fashion design?
I'm controlling, when I get to make clothes I get to make them and it's all my own idea, or I get to take something and make it worse but sometimes it's better...I always try to make it better.

3. How did you find out about The Art Institute of Vancouver and what made you decide to go there?
Um... Google. It's not really where you go, it's what you do when you're there. I think that's for everything really.

4. What inspires you?
Music... loudly playing in my ear. People inspire people. I sometimes like to think about when would look good on someone, and valla... you have a design.

5. Who inspires you?
My mentors, I was lucky to have really amazing people around me growing up, and still too this day most of them are in my life. Everything I do I always like to thank them for the encouragement to do something that was a dream, and now it's a goal.

6. What sort of fashion are you interested in?
Streetwear mostly, but I loved doing gowns when I was younger. I made my own grade 9, and grade 12 Grad dress.

7. What do you see in the stores that you think is really great? (if nothing, omit lol)
I love picking up a designer that I've never seen. Button is a great one I just discovered on the weekend.

8. Which fashion magazines do you read? Which is you favorite?
What magazine don't I read... They are the best source of learning what's out there and what people are going too wear. My favorite magazine is probably Hobo, it's expensive so I usually just look at it in Chapters and Nylon.

9. If you had a choice of all designers in the world, who would you prefer to work for? Why?
I'd work for the designers of Heatherette. They do amazing stuff and it's crazy. A lot of alternative materials and just outrageous art pieces of clothing.

10. Why did you enter Cool versus Cruel this year?
I found out about it, and any opportunity you get you take in this industry.

11. What are your "hopes and aspirations" for yourself in the fashion industry?
I just want to be happy. It's really not simple. As a designer you're always changing something, and never happy with your work cause you've had to look at it for so long in one sitting.

12. What is your favorite fabric? (in general or to work with)
Raw Silk. Imperfection is beautiful.
