Family Service and Rutgers University Join Forces

Sept. 15, 2009 - PRLog -- Family Service recently initiated a partnership with Rutgers University, New Brunswick that informs adolescents from Family Service Specialized Foster Care and children’s residential programs of the state funding available to them for post-secondary education.

Two teens and staff from Specialized Foster Care, Laurel Landing Psychiatric Community Residence and Stepping Stone Group Home visited the campus to kick off the new Partnership Education Program.

During the visit, they toured the campus and attended an information session about entrance requirements, the process needed to release the funding available to them, additional scholarship information and additional special accommodations Rutgers offers to benefit these youth.

Family Service and Rutgers agree the future students are more likely to use the educational opportunities if they are exposed to them. Pamela Collins, Director of Development and Communication for Family Service, explains, “Youth in these programs have overcome many obstacles in their young lives. The partnership program is an excellent opportunity for them to reach their goals and transition to adulthood through a university setting.”
