Specialist Donald Reas Axtell III has been awarded the 'American Patriot' award for his service and sacrifice for America by The American Patriot Program.
The Texas Rangers will be complementing the American Patriot Program 'Patriot Award' given to the first Texas selection and first ever selection of a combat wounded American Veteran to have served in the war in Iraq by inviting Axtell to throw out a 'first pitch' at the Friday, Sept. 18th Texas Rangers game at Arlington Stadium.
America Supports You Texas nominated Specialist Reas Axtell USA for the national level award that honors combat wounded American Veterans 'through America's Favorite National Pastime'. Axtell sustained a double hip disarticulation when a rocket was fired into a U.S. Military base while he was serving in Kirkuk, Iraq in 2007.
American Patriot Program Director Bryan Sidensol said of the Texas selection, "Reas Axtell embodies the dedication and commitment of the men and women who serve in our armed forces. He has sacrificed so much for his country. It's our great pleasure to honor him."
According to the organization's website, America Supports You Texas, based out of Amarillo Texas, provides military support to servicemen and their families while The American Patriot Program is a 'group of baseball organizations from around America united to honor the combat wounded American Veteran'.
