Many people rely on online service providers such as Moneybookers, and the multitudes of others that are available for transferring money online, online purchases and so forth. These services of course are all charged for and one cannot avoid these charges, especially considering that they go towards the security of the online platform in maintaining your funds and privacy in a secure environment. Well so you would think, wouldn't you?
At the time of submitting this press release the writer's MoneyBookers account had been fraudulently accessed, with no less than two transactions being 'allowed' to go through their systems. Fruitless efforts to contact their customer care department before their office hours suggests that the security and privacy of their clients does not warrant a 24 hour call center or customer service line, when anyone knows that hackers or fraudsters do not adhere to any specific working hours or schedule.
Investigation into the alleged fraudulent activity, as well as whether these funds would be reversed was met with a somewhat indifferent "each case is treated on its own merits"; which basically means maybe or maybe not, who knows. The money according to their records was sent to a Skype email address, which one might expect to believe is easier to trace, once again who knows.
The point of this Press Release is to warn all who have accounts at Moneybookers, and perhaps to provide a heads up as to the current security breach experienced by the writer of this notification. At the time of this press release being submitted, the organization of Moneybookers was given the opportunity of refunding and / or reversing all activities on the account mentioned, however no action or response via email or telephone was forthcoming.
[Edit] Subsequently my Moneybookers account has been closed by Moneybookers, and according to the telephone representative the money, that was uploaded was refunded by Moneybokkers themselves, as the recipient company, in this case Skype refused any refund, for unknown reasons. Well done Moneybookers, Disappointing Skype.
