Though prices haven't fallen as such, there are still bargain properties to be found in Calabria if you know where to look. That is according to Calabrian-property.com, spokesperson Robert Davies said:
"Firstly, because the properties that overseas buyers are being offered in Calabria are mainly off plan, there have not been any significant price drops in Calabria. This is because off plan sales are neither here nor there, and developers can afford to hold their price, which is a testament to Calabrian property development.
"That said, Calabrian developers would still like to get in a few off plan or their limited key ready sales to keep the shareholders happy, and some of the new developments that are being launched are coming in at offer prices far below anything previously on offer."
"For example we have just added some new apartments for sale in Calabria from 47,000 Euros ( http://www.calabrian-
The developments Davies was referring to are the Serno Villas, which are key-ready. And the apartments are in the second phase of the Tyrrhenian beach resort.
Off plan property has gotten a bad name since the credit crunch caused projects to be cancelled in Dubai etc, but as long as you do your research the risk can be minimised.
For example, checking a developer's finances; off plan sales should never be relied upon for any stage of the building work. That is why the lack of price drops in Calabria is significant, because it shows the developers are in no way reliant upon off plan sales.
Also, a trip to the country is essential, at which point you check out the development, and the developer, making sure all the correct permissions are in place, and that they and the local laws are being adhered to. You may want to make a trip at every payment stage. Calabrian-Property.com is currently offering low cost inspection visits to Calabria ( http://www.calabrian-
