Global carbon management organisation, Carbon Planet Limited, has hit out at false claims its business client in Papua New Guinea issued fake carbon trading certificates to landowners.
Carbon Planet’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Jim Johnson, has denied claims made in recent media reports that his company’s PNG client, Kirk Roberts of Nupan Trading Corporation, used fake carbon trading certificates in negotiations with PNG landowners.
“This is a complete fabrication and one that Carbon Planet takes very seriously,” a furious Jim Johnson said today.
“Kirk Roberts of Nupan Trading Corporation has advised Carbon Planet in stern and unambiguous terms that he has not used carbon trading certificates, false or otherwise, in negotiations with the PNG landowners.
“Carbon Planet is committed to a strict ethical code of conduct and its business practices adhere to the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
“We have projects, partners and people in many countries in South East Asia, Central Asia, the Middle East and Latin America and any suggestion that either Carbon Planet or Kirk Roberts of Nupan Trading Corporation has operated in any manner in PNG which is not completely honest and transparent is an absolute untruth,” he said.
Carbon Planet Limited is an unlisted public company that has been operating in the global carbon economy on a number of levels for almost a decade.
Headquartered in Adelaide and with offices around the country, the company’s research scientists are recognised as some of the world’s most highly qualified experts in carbon emissions auditing and management.
“Carbon Planet is committed to working with the peoples and Governments of the countries in which we operate in the design of projects to ensure landowners retain their rightful carbon rights,” Jim Johnson said.
“The vast bulk of the benefits from carbon deals go directly to the local communities in a transparent and accountable manner and we conduct our business to the highest ethical and commercial standards,” he said.
