The philosophy of The Cleansing Center, the newest addition to health care services in Millburn, NJ, is hardly a novel one, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Healthcare professionals have recommended prevention as a solution to our Nation’s health problems for a long time. Doctors have been urging Americans for decades to eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly. Despite stern warnings, as a country, it appears we haven’t been listening.
According to the CDC (http://www.cdc.gov/
To a great extent, these deaths could have been prevented using diet, exercise and life style modification prior to the onset of illness. America has made more advances towards treating sickness and symptoms rather than improving the public’s health.
As long as the healthcare community ignores the underlying conditions related to disease, and pharmaceutical companies continue to produce better, more accessible medications;
We are sick emotionally, spiritually and physically. We are overfed and under nourished, we are overweight and depressed. Long gone are the days when a heavy-set person is encouraged to diet and exercise to improve their health over taking a pill to treat, but not cure, illness. Medications were NEVER meant to replace common sense and accountability;
On a very simple level, sickness is often preventable. People get sick for a variety of reasons – however, two conditions must be met for sickness to occur: susceptibility and exposure. People are exposed to chemicals, viruses, infections or injuries, and if their body is unable compensate, the result is an alteration in the healthy function of the body’s systems. When the body is burdened with a multitude of hindrances to its healthy immunological and physiological response, we become sick. Today, more than even, Americans are more susceptible than ever to interferences with the healthy functioning of their bodies: stress, inadequate sleep, emotional and spiritual confusion, inadequate or inappropriate dietary intake leading to malnourishment, obesity, exposure to environmental toxins and pathogens and poly-medication administration, to name a few.
The Cleansing Center’s services focus on detoxifying immune-response inhibiting toxins as well as coaching and counseling to help clients make the transition to healthy clean living.
According to Jim Bock, RN - Clinical Director, “its simple, the only reasons people get sick is because they have been exposed to something that their body couldn’t fight off; or their body is damaged in a way that won’t allow it to function properly.” What the center addresses is NOT the symptoms of an illness; but the potential causes. The Cleansing Center attempts to: “remove what the body was exposed to (external or internal)”, “improve the body’s ability to fend off future exposures” and hopefully “repair the normal function of the body.” For instance, hypertension might be addressed by modifying diet; increasing exercise; and detoxification from heavy metals (that might be responsible for causing the plaque build up in arteries). If a client doesn’t have the discipline to exercise or maintain a healthy diet; the staff addresses the underlying issues that foster the destructive behaviors with a team of peers and mental health professionals whose first course of treatment is not handing out pills like they are like M&M’s. Additionally, the center may assign a life coach to help the client set goals and adhere to a program of recovery. A Life Coach may take the client shopping and teach him/her to read labels or visit the client at home to empty out a cupboard full of cookies.
Services offered include: point of care laboratory testing; colonics; IV chelation therapy; IV vitamin therapy; and parasite, heavy metals, viral and bacterial detoxification programs. In addition to these services are treatments designed that help clients make difficult adjustments towards healthy living like spiritual and emotional counseling and referrals as well as life coaching and diet and nutritional counseling.
At the hub of their awareness and prevention philosophies, The Cleansing Center also offers a battery of assessments and blood, urine, saliva, hair, skin and fecal laboratory services to their clients. These services help target and modify behaviors and exposures that, over time, are likely to lead to poor health, sickness and disease.
The clinic’s conception was born of the like minded Directors of the center who were equally frustrated with their experience of the nation’s health (and healthcare) at their respective hospitals. The clinic’s medical director, Dr. Lewandowski, found the healthcare process to be lopsided and perhaps ineffective, pointing out that most Americans incur 95% of their medical expenses in the last 5 years of their life. The Cleansing Center’s Directors noticed that the majority of the hospital’s ER patients were suffering from ailments resulted from poor life style choices and the illnesses might have been preventable.
Together, Dr. Lewandowski and Mr. Bock are dedicated to helping patients receive the intervention necessary to direct the course of their lives towards healthy, comfortable and whole body longevity.
As part of their mission to offer clients whole body health, The Cleansing Center has partnered with like minded professionals whose goal is the responsible practice of medicine. Medication as “treatment”
Mr. Bock worked as a Registered Nurse at University Hospital’s Emergency Department in Newark and currently works part time in Newton Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department. Jim was responsible, in 1996, for starting The Survivors Foundation to provide therapeutic referrals to survivors of child abuse and training to healthcare professionals to more effectively treat adults who were abused as children.
Dr. Lewandowski practiced emergency medicine at University Hospital in Newark for over 15 years.
